J. David Marley, Principal
Investigator has worked in the construction and building industry
for over 25 years in Amherst MA. Diversified is a full service
general contracting company that provides general contracting,
construction management and design/build services to a wide range
of commercial, institutional and governmental clients. He is the
originator and developer of the Solar Learning Laboratory. His
experience overseeing renewable energy installations led him to
investigate broader applications of solar beyond roof-mounted
installations. As a business owner and general contractor Mr.
Marley is ideally suited to coordinate an interdisciplinary team of
professionals that must bring this educational product from concept
to functioning at a feasible cost. Mr. Marley has valuable
experience working on similar projects – educational infrastructure
- with a similar mix of professionals previously.
Morton M. Sternheim, STEM Research
Director is Professor Emeritus of Physics and STEM Education
Institute Director at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His
past experience includes extensive research in theoretical nuclear
physics and authorship of innovative college physics textbooks. He
has been a leader for the past 25 years in efforts to improve
science and technology education in K12 schools and in higher
education. His current STEM Ed programs include nanotechnology
and curriculum development projects for STEM teachers, and Science
and Engineering Saturday seminars for teachers. The programs have
been funded by NSF, NASA, US Dept. of Energy, state and private
foundations.
Dr. Michael
Lehan, Financial Services Developer, is Director of Berkshire
Management Group, teaches at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and
specializes in funding alternative energy production. Dr. Lehan’s
clients include foundations, the US Department of Agriculture and
energy related development and agricultural firms. Dr. Lehan has
fifteen years experience in the financial services
industry.
Dr. Alan
Lutenegger, Engineer is Professor of Civil and Environmental
Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Dr.
Lutenegger has published extensively and consults with the United
States Department of State, Fortune 100 corporations and specializes
in stabilization of ground based structures.
Dr.
Stephen Herbert, Associate Dean, Plant, Crop, Energy and Soil
Scientist is also Director of the Center for Agriculture at the
University of Massachusetts Amherst. Dr. Herbert has published
widely regarding usage of energy in crop production and is currently
focused on sustainability in crop production and alternative uses of
energy in farming and education.
Robert
Snyder is a retired middle school science and high school
earth science, and physics teacher. He is a developer of teacher
certification examinations for National Evaluation Systems, and has
previously been a consultant to the NOVA television series, the
Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, the US Department of
Energy, and the Prentice-Hall Publishing Co. He is a co-author of
Earth Science: The
Challenge of Discovery, 1991, Heath and Co., and supervises
student teachers.
Christopher B. Emery is a retired
high school teacher who taught physics, physical science,and
electronics. He has been active in preservice and inservice teacher
education for more than two decades. He is a consultant to
National Evaluation Systems, a staff member in STEM Education
Institute programs, a workshop leader for the Physics Teaching
Resource Agent program, an instructor in the UMass Science Education
Online M.Ed. program for science teachers, and a supervisor of
student teachers.
Holly R.
Hargraves is a retired middle and high school English teacher
who has worked extensively with science teachers through the UMass
STEM ED program for seventeen years. She has helped develop and
organize numerous summer courses for STEM educators and has been
the program evaluator for the PVSTEM NET organization for three
years. A web designer since 1996, she has created over 60
unique websites, including many STEM Ed course websites.
Marie
Silver is the Program Manager of the UMass STEM Ed Institute.
She was formerly the Education Director for the Children's
Museum at Holyoke and for the Holcomb Farm Environmental Center in
Connecticut. She has been the Project Director for the STEM
RAYS Program, an after-school science program for middle
school students for four years. |
