STEM Ed Announcement: TEACHERS ON THE ESTUARY

 Applications for this summers TOTE program are now being accepted  a
 great way to include STEM in your curriculum. Full information
 including applications and the syllabus can be found on the home page
 of www.waquoitbayreserve.org under hot topics.
 
 If you are faxing or
 sending your application by mail, please also send a copy by e-mail
 (joan.muller@state.ma.us ). You should get confirmation from us of
 receipt of your application within 2 working days. 
 
 TEACHERS ON THE ESTUARY 
 
 a National Estuarine Research Reserve System program
 
 Field and research-based professional development  integrating
 content, methods, and activities on
 
 salt marshes and sea level rise
 
         Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Falmouth,
 Cape Cod, MA  
 
         August 12-15, plus follow up session Nov., 2013
 
         Designed for teachers of grades 7-12, others are welcome to
 apply.  Aligned with Massachusetts and Next Generation frameworks.
 
 Work with local scientists and experienced coastal educators. Explore
 coastal habitats and carry out field studies.
 
 Learn how to use real data and guide student investigations. Try out
 Estuaries 101, a web-based curriculum.
 
     2 graduate credits available from Framingham College for $150 or
 45 PDPs (free)
 
     Workshop is free but space is limited so application is required. 
 Lodging (if needed) and some meals will be provided.
 
     Teachers will be awarded $200 for implementation.

 TOTE is also being held this year at Narragansett Bay National
 Estuarine Research Reserve in Rhode Island and Wells Reserve in
 Maine. Information
