STEM Ed Announcement: Bio-Rad Explorer Lab Kit Teacher Training Workshop, Greenfield High School

Hello friends and colleagues,

Greenfield High School will be hosting a science curriculum development and
training workshop in collaboration with Bio-Rad, Inc., a leading US
manufacturer of biotechnology and analytical chemistry products and systems.

The workshop will provide hands-on training using the protein analysis
educational lab kits described below:

*Size Exclusion Chromatography Kit-students use column chromatography to
separate a mixture of proteins in solution.

*Got Protein Kit-this kit uses the Bio-Rad quick start Bradford protein
assay to measure protein concentrations.

*Comparative Proteomics Kit 1, Protein Profiler Module-this kit enables
students to employ protein electrophoresis to study protein structure and
function.

Greenfield High School chemistry teacher, Andrew Bowersox, will also present
an overview of his research and curriculum development experience at the
National Renewable Energy Laboratory, which focused on identifying enzymes
useful in the conversion of cellulose to bio-ethanol, a renewable liquid
fuel.

This workshop should appeal to chemistry, biology, environmental science,
and general science teachers interested in leading whole classes or small
groups through "hands on" project based work. The kits provide tools for
students to develop their own protein-based experiments.

Coffee refreshments, and bagels will be provided.

Please share this message and attached flier with your education contacts.
We hope to see you there!
