 NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing

 A new award in support of young women in computing
 Estimates are that there will be 1.4 million computer specialist jobs available in the US in 2018. Now consider that in
 2008, only 18% of computer science graduates were women. Come challenge yourself and apply for the inaugural
 Massachusetts Aspirations in Computing Affiliate Award (MACAA)! ITA Software is partnering with the national
 sponsor, National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) along with other local technology
 companies and universities to honor young women at the high-school level for their computing-related achievements
 and interests.
 
 Am I eligible?
 » Applicants must be high-school level girls (grades 9-12).
 » Applicants must reside in Massachusetts.
 » Applicants should have a demonstrated outstanding aptitude and interest in IT/computing, and demonstrated leadership ability.
 » Applicants should have good academic history, typically a GPA of 3.0 or better.
 » Applicants should have post-secondary education plans.
 » Students from groups underrepresented in computing and current Juniors/Seniors are strongly encouraged to apply.
 » Past applicants including semi-finalists are encouraged to apply, however, previous award-winners are not eligible to reapply or receive any awards.
 » Relatives of employees or board members of NCWIT are prohibited from receiving the award.
 
 How do I apply?
 Application opens September 13, 2010! Visit www.ncwit.org/award. Online applications must be submitted by
 11:59PM on October 15, 2010. Parent/guardian and school endorsement must be completed by 11:59PM on October
 22, 2010. Email any questions to macaa@itasoftware.com.
 
 What could I win?
 The Award Ceremony will be held at Microsoftâ??s NERD Center on November 21, 2010. Each qualified award recipient
 will receive a variety of prizes and a trophy for the winners and their schools.
 
 Scholarship
 The University of Massachusetts Lowell is pleased to announce that it will offer a $10,000 scholarship to a winner of
 the 2010 Massachusetts Aspirations in Computing Affiliate Award. The student must meet the university's admissions
 standards and attend UMass Lowell as a full-time student for four years. The scholarship will be paid in four annual
 installments of $2,500, provided that the student maintains a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 and
 remains a student in good standing.
