Pathways Coordinator (part time)
Commonwealth Alliance for Information Technology Education (CAITE)
University of Massachusetts Amherst - Department of Computer Science
Requisition No.: R25949
Part-time, temporary, non-benefitted position; position grant funded

(Anticipated 25 hrs./wk. Sept.â??Feb.; 15 hrs./wk. Marchâ?? Aug.)
Hourly rate: $20 â?? 23
Background:
The Commonwealth Alliance for Information Technology Education (CAITE,
pronounced â??Kateâ??) is a Massachusetts state-wide project aimed at
increasing diversity in computing and information technology (IT)
education. Funded by the National Science Foundationâ??s Broadening
Participation in Computing program, CAITE began in 2007 and has funding
through 2011. As an alliance, CAITE works with 15 public higher
education institutions in the areas of (1) outreachâ??increasing knowledge
of IT careers and changing the image of IT/computing; and (2)
pathwaysâ??creating clear and nurturing pathways from high school, to
community college, to 4-year degree and beyond.
CAITE focuses on community colleges, which serve as a gateway to its
target population of females and under-represented ethnic and racial
minorities, and populations under-represented in Massachusettsâ??
innovation economy. One of CAITEâ??s lasting impacts will be institutional
improvements in clear and nurturing pathways from community colleges to
4-year campuses. To date, CAITE has held several â??transfer summits;â??
gathered information about existing courses, programs, and transfer
agreements; and developed a website (www.TakeItGoAnywhere.org) to
provide information about general transfer issues and links to IT and
computing degree programs at Massachusetts public colleges and
universities.
CAITE now seeks to hire a seasoned higher education professional to
advance its pathways mission using a statewide strategy. The Pathways
Coordinator will make measurable strides in increasing the number of
viable transfer agreements and pathways among Massachusetts 2-year and
4-year public institutions, leading to increased numbers of students
transferring, increased retention, and thus increased diversity of
students completing 4-year degrees in computing and IT fields.
