Superintendents and High School Principals: Have you been thinking about expanding your computer science program?

High School Teachers: Are you interested in teaching computer science, but not sure where to start?

As part of a National Science Foundation grant project, Massachusetts Exploring Computer Science Education Partnership (MECSP), we are inviting western Mass. schools to nominate high school teachers for professional development to expand computer science education in your high school. Twenty western Mass. schools are offering this new introductory computer science course, and more than 60 schools are participating from across Massachusetts.

Details of the opportunity may be found in the attached letter and fact sheet. Because participation requires a school commitment to teach Exploring Computer Science (ECS) in September 2017, we encourage schools to begin discussions well before the January 25, 2017 application deadline.

FREE INFORMATION SESSION

To help you make an informed decision, we are offering school administrators and interested teachers an information session about this ECS opportunity and the future of computer science education in Massachusetts. Choose the session that is most convenient for you (info at all sessions is the same).

3 Info Session Dates • 2 Virtual Options

  • Tuesday, Dec. 20  •  4-5 PM  •  Virtual Meeting
  • Thursday, Jan. 5  •  4-5 PM  •  UMass Amherst Campus
  • Friday, Jan. 6  •  8-9 AM  •  Virtual Meeting

If unable to attend one of these sessions, inquire to schedule a phone call or visit to your school.

Also, learn about ECS across Massachusetts at the Technology in Education Conference at Holyoke Community College, Thursday, Jan. 19. There will be a session on ECS at 3 PM and a session on AP CS Principles at 10 AM.

Please let us know if you have any questions and feel free to share this with your peers in western Mass.
