STEM Ed Announcement: MCAS Physics Test Development Position

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is
currently seeking an MCAS Physics Test Development Specialist in the
Office for Mathematics and Science and Technology/Engineering. The
selected candidate will work with Department staff and an external
contractor to assure content accuracy, style, consistency, and scoring
validity of MCAS science tests. 

The selected individual will perform the following duties:

-provide content expertise for the development, review, and refinement
of MCAS physical science and physics test materials;

-review science test items with attention to detail for content
accuracy, grade-level appropriateness, grammar, spelling, and
readability; 

-prepare and evaluate open-response MCAS science scoring materials,
including benchmarking student responses;

-work closely with and facilitate meetings with educators who serve on
the science assessment development committees;

-assist with providing professional development to the field regarding
science assessment;

-assist other ESE staff with initiatives related to science curriculum,
instruction, and assessment; and

-perform other duties as assigned.

This position is a full-time (37.5 hours/week) position, based in
Malden, MA. There are no telecommuting options. In-state and
out-of-state (primarily to Dover, NH) travel is required approximately
30-40 days per year.

The successful candidate will possess:

-advanced content knowledge in science, with an emphasis on physics;

-Bachelor's and/or advanced degree in physics, science education, or
related field;

-familiarity with the Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering
content standards;

-familiarity with science and technology/engineering MCAS assessments;

-ability to critically read and edit MCAS science test items;

-experience writing selected and constructed response science test
items;

-strong verbal and written communication skills;

-ability to balance competing priorities and to meet deadlines;

-demonstrated strength in group facilitation;

-experience working with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, and Outlook;

-experience working in a K-12 educational setting; and

-demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
