MITS Professional Development Summer Institute
Explore! Investigate! Invent!
How Science Inspires Engineering
July 9-20, 2012
(10 Days, Monday -Friday)
For Upper Elementary and
Middle School Educators
Explore! Investigate! Invent! How Science Inspires Engineering will
explore how inspirations for many of the products we use today and
engineering solutions applied to human society are built upon
understanding and observing the natural systems and living organisms
in the world around us.
" Investigate the connections between science and engineering
and get ready to meet the forthcoming science and engineering
frameworks.
" Learn how to present the engineering design process to your
students and how it relates to science inquiry.
" Explore examples of how science has provided engineers with
the foundations to create solutions to real world problems such as
flight, machine design, building practices and the development of
items you use every day.
" Examine how the natural sciences (chemistry, physics,
biology, earth, space and environmental sciences) inform engineering
design and in turn, how engineering applications can lead to new
questions for scientific research.
