It combined the teaching of mathematics pedagogy with the content of trigonometry and calculus and was consistent with the NCTM Standards and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Objectives included to:
- Offer content courses to middle school mathematics teachers
- Integrate the teaching of mathematics with the content of functions, trigonometry, derivatives and anti-derivatives.
- Investigate connections between trigonometry and calculus, between theory and real life applications, and between calculus topics at the college level and ideas that appear in the middle school mathematics curriculum.
- Use technology in the form of TI-83 Plus graphing calculators and the Internet.
- Integrate the history of mathematics into the course by placing selected topics in their historical context.
- Create grade appropriate lesson plans on the content covered. These lessons were presented during follow-ups.
