 STEM Starter Academy at STCC
In an effort to increase the number of students who enroll in and
complete programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
(STEM), Springfield Technical Community College is actively recruiting
students for its second cohort of the STEM Starter Academy. Over six
weeks in this summer (Monday, June 29, 2015 through Friday, August 7,
2015), students will complete three courses (Introduction to
Engineering, Remedial Math, and College Success), aimed at giving them
a head start for their first semester at STCC. The students will also
listen to guest speakers who will talk to them about STEM career
trajectories, as well as visit local companies where they can see some
of these career paths come to life. As incentives for joining the
Academy, the students will get free textbooks and courses, earn free
college credit, receive lunch daily, be transported to and from field
trip locations, and earn a stipend of $400.00
If you know of any students who:
 1. plan to apply (or have already applied) to attend STCC in the upcoming
 fall 2015 semester;
 2. will be graduating from high school this year (or graduated in either
 2013 or 2014); and
 3. expressed an interest in science, technology, engineering, and/or
we ask that you encourage them to apply for a spot in the STEM Starter
 Academy at STCC!
Do act fast! Applications for BOTH admission to STCC and the STEM
Starter Academy must be received by Friday, May 1, 2015.
