MAKING SENSE OF MANUFACTURING
Looking for a â??coolâ?? way to engage your students while addressing the newly revised Science and
Technology/Engineering standards? Look no further! This workshop, designed for middle and
high school educators, will examine manufacturing engineering. Find out how a product is
created using raw materials and how those materials end up as a sleek finished product. Learn
how important material selection is in addition to the basics of mass production.
Ever wonder how shoes are produced? Well, a hands-on activity will leave you walking away
with a new pair of flip-flops!

Since the recent adoption of the new Massachusetts Science, Technology/Engineering standards there
has never been a more appropriate time to acquaint educators to all the standards and to emphasis the
importance of implementing them all.
To bring about the necessary changes in order to implement the new standards evaluating the professional
development requirements for your district is a must. If you are looking to meet the needs for your district,
the Gateway Project is poised to support your district to develop a strategic plan of action to implement
rigorous and engaging technology/engineering programs. Additionally, educators will be introduced to a
portfolio of standards-based resources and assessment tools.
The Gateway team is proud that the Massachusetts STEM Advisory Council has recognized the Gateway
Project as a promising practice in STEM education since 2012. We have supported over 100 school
districts in the implementation of comprehensive STEM education. Let us show you how we can help
