Teaching & Learning with STEM Projects: Earthquake Safe Structures
Wednesday, May 4th from 3:30-6:30 at WPI
Join a group of 4-12 grade educators to discuss Earth’s systems, natural hazards, and engineering design while designing an earthquake safe structure. This workshop is free, but you are asked to send an email in order to reserve a spot.
Workshop description: This last session of the STEM Projects PD series will focus on the design and building of an earthquake safe structure. Participants will follow an activity aligned with MA’s standards for Earth Science, engineering, and math to research, design, and test a variety of materials and structures to meet the needs of a design challenge.
Christine Robbins from Auburn Middle School will guide the group through a unit plan she developed as part of her summer 2015 RET (Research Experience for Teachers) at WPI, during which she researched and developed a shake table as well as a unit plan on earthquake safe structures.
To reserve a spot email Mia Dubosarsky at firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, students' grade level, and your school/organization by Friday, April 29.
