The Mass Academy of Math and Science at WPI seeks a Teacher in Science and Technical Writing/STEM Education to teach a course in Science and Technical Writing, to work with the Humanities Master teacher in improving the expository, analytical, and persuasive writing skills of Mass Academy students, and to coordinate the STEM/STEM II research programs at Mass Academy in collaboration with other faculty.
Principal Duty and Responsibility: In STW, coursework consists of research papers, short essays on topics in science and nature, and technical reports. Candidates should be skilled writers with the ability to assess and remediate student writing in accordance with the established writing rubrics of Mass Academy. The position will involve daily interaction with other faculty, as well as direct student instruction in individual and small group settings. The position provides the opportunity to experience teaching in a fast-paced advanced secondary school setting, with particular emphasis on research, as well as the ELA expectations of the Common Core State Standards.
Additional responsibilities include offering extra-curricular courses in various interest areas, coaching students with college essays and resumes, providing professional development activities, and grant writing.
Work and/or teaching experience in scientific research, technical writing and/or other related fields is preferred. Bachelors degree required, Masters degree or beyond preferred. Experience working with high school students preferred, and ability to meet the licensure requirements of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts/DESE required. Ability to work in a collaborative environment expected.
